The Creative Process

Reflecting on my own practice has led me to consider what it is to be a creative practitioner, and the impact this might have on my learners. I've become PowerPoint adverse and in the last few years thought increasing about how and why the classroom activities I choose have had such a positive impact, not only only results, but on the aspirations and creativity of my learners.

This is a fun warmer that will get the students' brains ready to think in English. I think it can be used with any level of students, it just depends on the difficulty and quantity of words the students need to find rhymes for.

Steps:

  • Split the class into four teams, A, B, C and D (you can do this game with fewer teams, but I like 4 teams)

Exploring APP

Hi all – as a part of my TLR within my English department, I am leader for APP. At the moment, I have a clear policy in which staff ‘track’ 3 representative pupils in each KS3 class and use these students to moderate our assessment and to monitor gaps in our teaching.

Please could I ask, if you are involved in/ leading APP in your department – how does it work and what are the ideas behind it?

Would be grateful if you could share :)

Let it snow!

ImageThe weather forecast has insisted, for days now, that we would recive heavy snow here in the Midlands.

And at last it is here! I am very lucky, as a teacher, because I know that I live close to school and if I had to get in to work, I could do the walk. I also know, that when the snow is heavy (like it is now – 4 hours on from the above picture) the school will be closed and I won’t have to take the risk.

Other people (non-teachers) always like to moan about this fact. But, they’re all missing a fundamental point… isn’t it a wonderful thing to allow children to have fun in the snow? To just be children?… Surely that’s what really matters.
